Kenny Kohlhaas is a recording artist, guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer from the Washington DC area.
His vocal approach finds great inspiration from a wide range of singers, including Daryl Hall (Hall and Oates), John Mayer, Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars, Prince, and Frankie Vallie, and his songwriting is greatly influenced by his love for the timeless craftsmanship of pop, rock and soul classics from the 1950's and 60's, rock, funk and soul of the 1970's, New Wave of the 1980's, alternative rock of the 1990's, indie/post rock of the 2000's and 2010's and jazz standards from the early part of the 20th century. His extensive jazz guitar training in college, years of experience as a sideman guitarist in the Gospel, Pop, Rock, Singer/Songwriter, and Jazz scenes, and years of refining his craft as a recording artist brings in influences from a wide variety of music that has been extremely foundational to the American musical tradition, and within his compositions, Kenny tastefully fuses those foundations with a post 2010 indie sensibility that unifies his depth of influences into a package that has wide mass appeal in today's age.
As a sideman, his musical endeavors have taken him all over the U.S. and to South Africa, Kuwait, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, and Belgium. He currently plays guitar for BeBe Winans. He played guitar on a main stage performance for Pope Francis in Philadelphia in 2015 with Marie Miller. He also played guitar in the house band for the historic 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. He also played a USO Tour for U.S. troops in Kuwait.
